The most traditional lace gowns either have a 1950s ballgown flair or an antique Victorian flavor. The Victorian vintage inspired lace wedding dresses often have beautifully shaped necklines, either long or short sleeves (but never strapless), and may have a softly falling skirt with a sweep train. Wearing your hear in a soft and classic updo will complement the style of the gown and help to show off its special neckline. A very pretty veil length for this type of lace gown is one which falls to mid calf length. Choose one which is trimmed in either a very fine pencil edge border or which has a delicate lace applique on just the lower portion of the gown (not by the face). The veil should fall fairly straight; do not go with a poufy veil for a Victorian inspired dress. A substantial pair of pearl teardrop earrings will finish off the effect beautifully.

On the other hand, if you have a lace wedding gown with a 1950s shape, a fuller veil will look great. These gowns may be created entirely from lace, or have lace appliques on the hem and bodice which embellish a gorgeous silk organza or taffeta. When wearing a bridal gown with a fuller skirt, a bit more fullness in the veil is ideal for balance. A waist length double tier veil with a silk ribbon trim is lovely for a fun and flirty bride. For a formal wedding, opt for a veil which is longer than the train of the gown and trimmed in a wide border of the matching lace all the way around. Sometimes called a mantilla, this is a truly stunning veil which will make a statement.

Lace bridal gowns are not always so demure. A slinky gown made of a lightweight lace like Chantilly can love your curves. The weight and classic grace of lace prevent a clingy gown from appearing too sexy for a wedding. When the gown has a very slim silhouette, a very, very long veil is actually a fantastic match. A long plain veil flowing behind a slender lace gown is truly breathtaking.

Pearls and lace always go together. In fact, many bridal gowns will have pearl beading on the lace for more elegance. When wearing a strapless lace gown, especially one with a 50s influence, a strand of pearls is ideal. Either choose a traditional full strand of pearls, or wear a pearl tin cup necklace for a lighter look. Demure brides can accent a tin cup necklace with a classic pair of pearl studs, or select a more trendy pair of earrings such as pearl drop stilettos. Either way, the bridal jewelry will enhance the beauty of a lace wedding gown, creating an absolutely lovely vision for your wedding day.

Duchess satin, peau de soie, or silk satin: these terms are often used interchangeably. They are all silk fabrics woven to have a sheen on one side. This is a very luxurious fabric, and it is frequently used to create formal ballgowns. You would accessorize a silk satin gown with very elaborate wedding jewelry.

Italian satin: this is likely a silk blend, or a synthetic trying to sound more expensive than it is. It will also have a sheen like silk satin, but the drape will be stiffer. If a gown is labeled as satin, without the word silk, then assume it is a synthetic like polyester. (Be forewarned: polyester does not breathe like a natural fiber – it is hot!) The price tag will also give you a hint – it is very difficult to find a silk bridal gown for under $1000.

Crepe: a pebbly-textured fabric with a matte finish. Crepe is loved for its’ fluid drape, and works best in slim silhouettes. Available in silk or synthetic.

Organza: a crisp plain weave fabric that is translucent. Organza is a very popular material as an overlayer for summer gowns. It is also created from silk or polyester.

Chiffon: another translucent fabric, but it has a soft drape instead of the crisp hand of organza. Like organza, chiffon is considered a summer-weight fabric.

Linen: a natural fiber woven from flax, linen is definitely reserved for summer. It starts out crisp, but will quickly acquire the “relaxed” (a.k.a. wrinkled) look that linen is known for. Linen is a great choice for an informal wedding gown, and would be lovely dressed up with simple pearl wedding jewelry.

Silk mikado: a twill weave fabric with a fairly stiff hand, mikado is a wonderful choice for modern, architectural gowns. It is less shiny than satin, and less matte than crepe. Mikado also wrinkles less than silk satin.

Silk shantung and silk dupioni: these two fabrics are best known for their slubby texture. Shantung is lighter weight than dupioni, and has less pronounced slubs. Both work well for structured gowns, but shantung can also be draped on the bias for a much softer effect. They have a minimal sheen.

Taffeta: a crisp fabric without shine. Silk taffeta can be used to create full, but lightweight gowns. It is also loved (or hated) for its’ characteristic rustling sound.

These are just a few of the special fabrics that designers use to create bridal gowns. More unusual choices include English net, silk piqué, and velvet. Your gown may also be embellished with various laces, ribbons, and trims. With so many amazing fabrics available, every bride is sure to find a wedding gown that feels like it was made just for her.

The origins of the wedding veil date back many centuries and are deep rooted in many cultures across the world. Throughout history veils and headpieces have varied. Some bride’s preferred tiaras or crowns with the veil attached at the back. Others preferred a headband of silk or fresh flowers.

Veil lengths vary greatly as well. The cathedral length veil is the most formal which will trail along behind the dress train. Chapel length veils touch the floor, elbow length veils are just that – elbow length and are worn with floor length gowns, whilst shoulder length veils are worn with gowns with an elaborate back so that they can be seen.

Wedding veils are not for everyone. Some bride’s feel the look is over fussy or don’t want something sitting around their face. Unity Candles

The engagement party should take place fairly soon after he pops the question. Usually somewhere between one and four months. 1. The Location - What are you looking for in a wedding location? Are you hoping for something traditional or would you like something out of the ordinary? Would you prefer an indoor location or do you have your heart set on an outdoor garden location? Would you prefer one of the many destination weddings such as Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead, and Mount Charleston, that Las Vegas has to offer? Deciding your location is the most important aspect of your wedding planning as it will set the whole tone for your wedding.

2. The Officiant - Would you be okay with a civil ceremony or would you prefer a religious ceremony? Many Las Vegas locations including most of the wedding chapels provide you with an officiant that provides a civil wedding ceremony but many locations can arrange for a rabbi, minister etc. if you prefer a religious ceremony. Of course in Las Vegas you also have the option of being married by the King himself, Elvis!

3. Flowers - Fresh or Silk? Single stem presentation or cascade bouquet? Roses, lilies or something tropical? Las Vegas wedding locations that offer all inclusive packages usually offer some sort of flowers with the package. If you have your heart set on something they don’t offer, you could always arrange for your own. Many locations offer you at least a few options when it comes to choosing your flowers. Some wedding chapels, including The Little Chapel of the Flowers, offer their own onsite flower shop where you can pick everything from the type of flowers that you would like to which ribbons you prefer with your flowers. They can even special order flowers if you have a special request.

4. Music - Most Las Vegas wedding locations offer pre recorded music for your wedding ceremony as part of their packages. Would you prefer live music for your ceremony? A few locations do offer live musicians as part of their packages and many others are willing to arrange it for you at an additional cost. So if you prefer a soloist or perhaps a cellist to the sounds of Kenny G coming from a sound system, you are in luck!

5. Photographs - Many consider this to be one of the most important aspects of the wedding planning since your wedding photographs are what you are going to look at for the years to come when you want to remember your wedding day. Do you want a large photography package? Are you interested in a lot of photographs of the ceremony, posed photos afterwards, or both? Would you like prints or would you prefer to purchase you pictures on a CD or disk so you can reprint them later? Some locations offer photography packages that include the photographer going with you where ever you want for the day. So if you dreamed of having wedding pictures taken in front of the Bellagio’s fountains, the Mirage’s volcano, or at the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign, you are in luck!

6. Videography - Would you like a video of your ceremony? Some locations offer the ceremony on VHS, others offer it on DVD, some offer you a choice of the two. Many wedding chapels also offer web cam broadcasting of the ceremony. Your wedding can be broadcast live on the internet for friends and family to view.

7. Transportation - Do you need transportation? Most Las Vegas wedding chapels offer limousine transportation with their wedding packages. Although it is included with the package, a gratuity to the limo driver is customary. Some locations offer other transportation options are also offered. Some of the chapels with drive thru ceremonies offer sports cars, bicycles, and even a monster truck for their drive thru ceremony packages. If you are not getting married in a chapel and need to find your own transportation, there are many businesses in Las Vegas that offer limousines, luxury and sports car rentals.

8. Wedding Attire – Do you plan to buy or rent you wedding attire? If you are in need of something to wear for your wedding there are many locations around the Las Vegas area, including some of the wedding chapels, that have gowns, tuxedos, and themed costumes available to rent or purchase. Some of these businesses will even deliver right to your hotel room for you.

These are the major decisions that you will face when planning your Las Vegas wedding. Once you make these decisions, you can move on to the small ones like whether or not to splurge on that dove release!

One: Booking vendors before you have done your homework. Many a bride has rushed out and booked the hottest reception site in town only to later learn that a) her church is not available on that date or b) it is way too small to fit all of the guests. Before you put down a penny with any vendor, be sure that you know all of the basics, such as the number of guests on both sides of the family, the date your church is available, and the general style of wedding you would like to have.

Two: Ordering your wedding gown too small as “motivation” or buying a too-small dress because it is a good deal. Oh please, please do not do this to yourself! The last thing any woman needs before her wedding is the added stress of having to try to change her body to fit into a dress. It is far better to buy your gown in your current size and then change the gown to fit you, should you slim down. And that way if you don’t lose any weight, at least you won’t have to lose any sleep wondering how on earth you are going to squeeze into your dress on the wedding day. It seems like a lot of brides also forget that their fiances loved them just the way they were when they asked them to get married, “perfect” or not.

Three: Biting off more than you can chew. Fancy yourself the next Martha Stewart? Keep in mind that even the great Martha has a staff to help her execute all of those fabulous craft projects. In other words, one woman cannot make everything for her wedding and also keep her sanity. Some things to scratch off the list: taking a course in jewelry making so you can handcraft the bridesmaid gifts (just pick out pretty bridesmaid jewelry in a store), making chocolate truffles for the wedding favors, and embroidering your own veil. Keep your expectations realistic and limit yourself to one or two projects that you know you can manage, such as printing invitations or learning enough calligraphy to write out the place cards.

Four: Not getting enough postage. The chances are very slim that your wedding invitation takes the same amount of postage as your phone bill. Take one of your invitations (with all of the enclosures) to the post office to have it weighed and determine the correct postage. Better still, take all of your invitations and hand cancel them after putting on the stamps. It looks much prettier than a commercial machine cancel and will not crush any ornaments like bows that you may have in your envelopes.

Five: Obsessing over perfection. I guarantee you that something will go wrong at your wedding, no matter how meticulously you plan. For instance at my wedding, the priest knocked over one of the floral displays on the altar during the ceremony and I dropped part of a stuffed mushroom on the bodice of my custom gown. So what? It was a great day anyway, and at some point you just have to let go of fussing over everything and simply enjoy your wedding.

Six: Leaving things to the last minute. The day before (or Heaven forbid, the morning of) your wedding is no time to be cranking out programs, writing place cards, or wrapping favors. Have all of these things done at least five days before your wedding so you do not lose beauty sleep over them on your wedding eve.

Seven: Last, but certainly not least, blowing your budget. It is all to easy to get swept away in the moment and decide to splurge on things in order to bring your dream wedding to life. However, all of those little splurges can quickly add up into a mountain of debt. Don’t start out your married life in a hole: decide on your budget early on and vow to stick to it. It may not be easy along the way, but when all is said and done, you will be very happy that you kept your promise to yourself.
