They have literally been worn for centuries, but the style of the veils has changed quite a bit. There are so many to choose from, practically one for every taste.

If you are considering a veil for your wedding day attire, but want something a little different and unique, you may want to consider a birdcage veil. The birdcage veil became popular in the 30’s and 40’s, and is once again making a comeback. The birdcage veil is made from netting, usually diamond-shaped. These veils can vary in length from just covering the eyes, to covering the entire face. They are also available in several colors, although most brides do tend to go with the classic white or ivory.

Birdcage veils can range from simple and understated, to dramatic and bold. Depending on the look you are trying to achieve. You may want to add adornments such as feathers or crystal accents. Birdcage veils can also be attached to a hat, for a unique and classy look. Typically the birdcage veil has either one or two combs, to attach it the brides head.

The birdcage veil is versatile in the fact that it can be worn in different ways. It can be worn directly over the face, or at an angle. The most common lengths of the birdcage veil are 9 inches, to cover a portion of the face, or 18 inches to cover the entire face. It may also be worn by bridesmaids, since they can be made to match any dress.

Birdcage veils range in price as well. There are several companies that will custom make a birdcage veil, however this may be more costly. You can also find these veils at bridal shops premade. These may be a little more cost efficient. If you are ordering a veil, remember that in order for it to look the same on you as it does on the models, you may have to work with the netting.

If you are working with a small wedding budget, but absolutely love the look and feel of the birdcage veil, why not try making your own. If you find one that you really like, get a picture and try your hand a veil making. It doesn’t require much sewing, just a little creativity. The materials that you will need are; netting, combs, thread, any adornments that you may want to add to your veil. There are several different sites that offer free instructions on how to make these beautiful veils.

The birdcage veil is undoubtedly one of the sassiest yet elegant bridal accessories out there. Adding this to your wedding day look is a great way to add a little of your personality without going overboard. The varieties of length and color also make this one of the more popular veils.

Although these veils are beautiful on brides, they can also be worn for other special occasions. Don’t limit your look to the ordinary, be bold and try a new look.
