Unity Candles – Choosing the Right One For Your Ceremony
As a wedding officiant, the unity candle ceremony is a big part of many of the weddings I perform. Ten years ago, a plain white pillar candle was all that was available. Now, there are many beautiful and unusual candle sets that turn this wonderful ceremony into a valued keepsake. Read on for some of the lovely choices you have.
1. Personalized: One of the most popular types of unity candles is the personalized candle. Personalizing can mean many things; you can have your monogram on the candle, or you can have your first names and wedding date. For weddings where there are children from previous marriages, a blended family unity ceremony complete with a candle listing all of the names in this new family, is a powerful and meaningful way to highlight this important event. Personalizing converts the unity candle into something that can be displayed and treasured.
2. Elegant and Simple: Many couples prefer a non personalized but decorated candle. Here the white or cream unity candle is festooned with crystals, sparkles or carved vines. This elevates it from just a plain white candle into an elegant keepsake.

4. Contemporary: There are also a number of styles that are unusual like a beach decorated candle for a destination wedding or a floating unity candle in an engraved vase. These add a touch of whimsy to the ceremony.
