A wedding guest book is designed to be a valuable keepsake for brides and grooms who can look back on it for years to come and remember fondly those who attended their special day. Unfortunately more and more often nowadays the book just becomes a piece of unwanted clutter that gets tucked away somewhere and forgotten about. Here are some great tips to make your guest book a memorable item.
First and foremost it is important that everyone in attendance signs it. While this may seem obvious, in the excitement of the reception, people may forget about the book or not even get to know about its existence in the first place. What good is a half empty book as a record of those who came? A great idea is to assign one of your trusted friends or family, or maybe even a member of the bridal party with walking between your guests in the reception and inviting them to leave a note for you. You could even go a step further and provide them with a guest list so that they can tick off those who have signed the book and those that they need to hunt down.
People often get stuck for words and you may end up with over a hundred messages of congratulations, give them a helping hand and point them in the right direction. Ask your guests to write down their favourite memory of you. Even if it is some strange memory of when you were a child that is left by a distant great aunt, it will make the whole experience a lot more personal.
Another good idea is to use a keepsake as a guest book. One of the best ideas is perhaps to use an autograph mat with your engagement photo in the center. Your guests can then write short messages all around the mat and after your wedding you can have it framed and hang it in your home.
Whatever format you choose for your guest book, be sure to make it personal. You are more likely to want to look back at a list of personal messages in the years to come.
